Alongside the launch, Google Vice President Wilson White confirmed that Pakistani students would receive a full year of Google AI Plus, the company’s premium Gemini subscription, completely free.

That’s not a small perk. Google AI Plus normally costs PKR 1,400 a month, a real, recurring cost that puts premium AI tools out of reach for a large share of Pakistani students and their families. Making it free for a year removes that barrier entirely, at least temporarily, and that’s where the actual impact for students nationwide lies.

What’s Actually Included

The free subscription isn’t just extended access to chat with Gemini. It includes:

• Double the usage limits compared to the free tier
• 400GB of cloud storage across Google Drive, Gmail, and Google Photos
• Gemini Omni, Google’s more advanced AI model tier
• NotebookLM, which can generate study material directly from a student’s own notes
• Gemini integration inside Google Docs, Sheets, Slides, and Gmail

For a student juggling research, writing, coding, or exam prep, that’s a genuinely useful toolkit, not a gimmick.

How to Claim It

Students can apply directly through Google’s official student offer page at one.google.com/ai-student. After signing in with a personal Gmail account, selecting the Google AI Plus plan, and verifying current student status (usually through an enrolment certificate or student ID), the subscription activates immediately. The offer needs to be claimed by December 31, 2026.

Why This Matters Beyond the Free Trial

The timing and framing of this announcement aren’t incidental. White explicitly connected Google’s move to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s goal of growing Pakistan’s IT exports to $30 billion, and noted that Google’s activity has already contributed to an estimated Rs 3.9 trillion in economic activity and supported more than 960,000 jobs in the country over the past decade.

For students specifically, the real value isn’t the one year of free access itself, it’s what that access enables while it lasts.
