Scotland Pakistan Scholarships 2026-27 for Women Now Open (Study in Pakistan)

The British Council is accepting applications for the Scotland Pakistan Scholarships for Young Women and Girls, funding study at HEC-recognised universities in Pakistan. Deadline: September 15, 2026.

Applications are open for the Scotland Pakistan Scholarships for Young Women and Girls 2026-27, with the deadline recently extended to September 15, 2026. One important clarification for applicants: despite the name, this scholarship does not fund study in Scotland. It’s funded by the Scottish Government but administered entirely within Pakistan by the British Council, supporting Pakistani women pursuing degrees at HEC-recognized universities inside the country.

First launched in 2013, the programme has supported more than 25,000 women and girls across Pakistan to date, according to British Council Pakistan.

Which Fields Are Covered

The scholarship supports study in fields considered important to Pakistan’s development, including:

  • Education: teaching, educational leadership, curriculum development, and academic operations
  • Sustainable Energy: renewable energy, energy efficiency, and sustainable energy systems
  • Food Security and Agriculture: agricultural technology, crop management, and food security
  • Health Sciences: healthcare, public health, and medical services
  • Climate Change: climate adaptation, mitigation, and natural resource management
  • STEM: science, technology, engineering, and mathematics

Since eligibility can vary between undergraduate and postgraduate programmes, applicants should confirm their specific subject qualifies before applying.

What the Scholarship Covers

Successful applicants receive support across several areas:

  • Tuition fees at their HEC-recognized university
  • University hostel accommodation, where applicable, for students who need to relocate
  • Travel expenses, with support for two round trips per year between home and university for students living in hostels
  • Research funding for Master’s students, covering research-related costs tied to their degree

Exact coverage and conditions depend on the official scholarship guidelines, which applicants should review carefully before applying.

Who Can Apply

To be eligible, applicants must:

  • Be female
  • Be Pakistani nationals currently residing in Pakistan
  • Hold a confirmed admission offer at an HEC-recognized university, for either a four-year Bachelor’s degree or a Master’s/MPhil programme of up to two years

The British Council is particularly encouraging applications from women with disabilities, those from rural or underserved areas, and applicants from minority communities.

Meeting the eligibility criteria doesn’t guarantee selection, the scholarship is awarded through a competitive process. Applications can be submitted online through the British Council’s official Scotland Pakistan Scholarships page.
